A Correctional Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) celebrates its 30-year anniversary Saturday 6/16/12 at the Webster Correctional Institution in Cheshire, Conn. with an event, open to the public, that shows off the various Connecticut Department of Correction C.E.R.T. teams. According to a DOC brochure, the mission of the Tactical Operations Unit is to provide the Commissioner of Correction with a contingent of specially trained and equipped personnel fully prepared to rapidly respond to emergency situations with the Department of Correction. Demonstrations include the tactical Special Operations Group, C.E.R.T. teams, K-9 teams, Hostage Negotiating teams and mission specific teams. C.E.R.T. was instituted in 1982 and created to ensure that Connecticut’s prison system was able to quickly manage and handle incidents in a professional and timely manner.
