We see a lot of photos of the city and in the suburbs, but rarely do you see photos of how the weather affects the people who live in the inner city. Well, the people in the HILL are awesome. Yesterday about 20 neighbors came together and cleared an entire street with their shovels and snow blowers,, then they worked into the night to clear out the driveways of everyone who pitched in on those efforts.This morning a snow plow and payloader came through and there were many folks on their porches watching. I went down the street and asked neighbors who had driveways 'if we help you get your driveway clear, can some of your neighbors park to get their cars off the street, that way more plowing can be done?" They said yes, and the people are out there again, in the rain ... giving each other a hand again. This is really AWESOME! Photos were taken by Leslie Radcliffe on 2/10/13 and 2/11/13 on Truman Street and King Place, New Haven, CT.

The 40" of snow dropped here in Hamden with Blizzard 2013 certainly had it's pros and cons. Right now having been snow bound for three days until we could get plowed out, I can only see the positives! When I looked out my window this morning and saw the most beautiful Valentine's a woman could ever ask for I just had to share it with THE NEW HAVEN REGISTER! My husband, Tim Nighswander, is a specialized photographer who photographs world renowned works of art working exclusively with the art community - mostly museums and galleries including MoMA, The Whitney Museum of American Art, David Zwirner gallery in NYC, The Josef & Anni Albers Foundation in CT ...to name a few. Last night while I was busy working in my home office Tim snuck outside to begin sculpting my Snow Heart in our front yard. This morning he finished it off with the red paint. When I looked out my bedroom window and saw my incredible special one-of-a-kind and most romantic Valentine's anyone could ever hope for, my jaw dropped bringing a tear of joy, love and gratitude for my husband, my children, our families, and our business.Happy Valentine's Day!
