Chihuahua rescue. Over 5o Chihuahuas, along with a few mutts, and two poodles, were offered for adoption at the Milford Petco store. The SPCA event drew a crowd, and some criticism. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Hundreds of tiny tacos, ballerinas and other costumed dogs fell short of a world record Saturday morning in Kansas City, but organizers said they were encouraged by the turnout for the inaugural Cinco de Mayo Chihuahua parade.

The Daily Freeman in Kingston, New York, received more than 400 entries in its annual Pet Photo Contest this year. Save for a handful of entries, all submissions this year were cats and dogs. Many of these animals were rescued.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — With lots of smarts and long lives, parrots were once favored by Baby Boomers, but more of the former pets are now wild, passed from owner to owner or ignored altogether in cramped cages without the feathered mates they crave, rescuers said.
